Dec 3, 2008 - Hi there. Nice tone, the CE-5 gives it a slightly different sound than a CE-2 but it still sounds really cool. Duncan pickup sounds good too. Rock on!

Dec 3, 2008 - Nice playing. I like the sound of the Duncan SSL-5 more than the Fender SCN in your other video. The Duncan seems to have a more open sound and quite a more more dynamic.

kitraefantasyart Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - It does sound better, but if you are having noise problems with your strat, even after shielding, the SCNs are completely silent. They sound closer to a CS69 or fat 50s, and still have that Gilmour sound, to my ears.

Dec 3, 2008 - Hallo,ecxuse me ....ssl-5 for bridge pick up,but for middle & neck pick up?Thank and by...

kitraefantasyart Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - I don't use them in this clip, but the neck and bridge are Fender custom shop 69s.

Dec 3, 2008 - Where did you find SSl-5 in white. I only can find black? Where did you buy?

kitraefantasyart Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - The white cover is the old one from the original Fender pups that were on the strat before I changed them. There are notes on where I got everything on the link in "more info" section in the upper right of the page.

Dec 3, 2008 - Do these pickups create lots of hum? Are these as noisy as, for example stock pick-ups that come with Standard stratocaster? Im really annoyed by noise, and I was thinking of getting 3 lace sensors, but now I might just get 2 and place the SSL5 on the bridge, but it'd be annoying if it was noisy. Also, is your guitar shielded, and it it hard/do you recommend it?I'd be glad if you could answer my questions, thanks!

kitraefantasyart Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - The SSL-5 pick up as much hum as any single coil pup does, including the stock strat pups. Lace sensors (I have LS golds on a strat) are good at reducing the hum, but I prefer the SCN noiseless. They sound better to me and are almost completely silent. I did shield my strat. There is a link to my strat page in the "more info" section, upper right of page. It won't eliminate the hum, but it does help.

Dec 3, 2008 - on the fender strat, it is said that David Gilmour's black strat has one ssl5 and two " custom hand wound"fat 50's strat... but on gilmourish the guy is using 69's like you... I'm lost lol

mouloudo Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - * fender site not strat lol

kitraefantasyart Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - I believe Gilmour's actual black strat has original late 60s Fender pups in the neck and mid. The signature series Black Strat was made with some custom wound pups to sound like these. The CS69s, Fat 50s, and CS54s are all in that same family. Most people seem to say use a fat 50's in the neck, CS69 or 54 in the mid to get the best sound. I prefer the 69s.
