Dec 2, 2008 - Very nice. I love the introduction to the video too -- very cool little melody -- is that you own little ditty? That is a fine traditional version of Salt Creek played real clean -- where did you pick it up from? You get nice tone and ring from your mandolin also -- what do you have a Gibson F-5G? I think I can see a flowerpot onthe headstock but its to dark to see details (<:

Dec 2, 2008 - Well thank you so much! The introduction to this video was just a little tune which I made up myself - I call it Lick Creek.Salt Creek is one of those tunes which I play all the time. This certain arrangement I picked up a few different places. I attend a couple bluegrass festivals here and there, and have learned certain parts of the song there, while on the other hand have learned other piece to the pie (or song) from other people. I play all by ear. :-)

Dec 2, 2008 - Wow, I sure do wish I had a Gibson! I'm surprised you thought my mandolin sounded that good! :-) All that it is is a Washburn M1SD-L. I got it for my birthday a few years ago, and I love it. :-)

Mandolin1944 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Your mandolin sounds good because you play it clean and crisp. There is nothing at all wrong with the sound you are making from the Washburn -- over the last 5 years the appearance, construction quality and sound of the lower priced mandolins has increased dramatically. But I know everyone playing bluegrass looks to Bill Monroe at least a little bit (<:Hey you need to work out the whole song for the Lick Creek that will be a good'en!
