Against the much more powerful Rattidz, it massacred him yet Cell using it against Gohan SSJ 2 had no effect and even Super Buu (Gotenks Absorbed), who was much stronger than Gohan at the time, couldn't even scratch him with it.

Dec 5, 2008 - You're missing the point. Look at the spot where Super Buu (Gotenks Absorbed) fires a special beam cannon at Gohan. He damaged Gohan a great deal but the special beam cannon itself barely did anything. Gohan was in an arm guard and didn't even appear to be damaged by it. Also, Goku holding him only helped the aim, the first special beam cannon broke right through Raditz's armor and wounded his arm, and it was almost directly a miss.

Dec 5, 2008 - Buu probably multiplied the power of the special beam cannon,it gave Gohan a good jolt,thats why it was effective,and Piccolo after the Saiyan saga didn't really even use the attack anymore,so its kind of hard to judge how effective it would specifically be,although it'd be useless by Semi-Perfect Cell anyway.The first special beam cannon did some damage to Raditz's shoulder,because they were relatively close in power back then.

Dec 5, 2008 - What show are you watching? Goku could barely even keep up with Raditz, let alone Piccolo. A blast by Piccolo, when Raditz took it head on, only "singed his hair". The power difference was huge.

Dec 5, 2008 - It was decent when you take into account that his shoulder was hit and that they couldn't really do much against Raditz earlier.They were relatively close in power when you go by the power back then,and if Piccolo got a good shot it probably would've damaged Raditz greatly or maybe kill him.

Dec 5, 2008 - I believe both special beam cannons were equally powerful. It pierced through his armor like butter and you could clearly see a wound on his shoulder. If it had hit Raditz dead center, it would've ended up like the first one. Going off topic, I don't get why Goku put Raditz into a hold when he was distracted by Gohan. He could've easily grabbed his tail again. Being killed helped Goku get training from King Kai but he couldn't have known about that at the time.

Dec 5, 2008 - Raditz was still trying to talk him out of him but Goku wasn't listening. By putting him in a hold, Goku was also risking failure since he even stated he couldn't hold him long. Grabbing the tail would not only completely immobilize Raditz but prevent Goku from making the sacrifice.
