Here is my composition Kickin' Groovin'.I though I should venture out on a limb by outline my thinking behind my song, so here we go :-)First of all it's about the rhythm, the groove. Chorus one and two ('comp only choruses') sets the mode.I based quite a number of the elements in the song on triplets. There is also a chorus with 5/4 in the right hand against the left hand beat. I'm also using right hand "thumps" on the lower manual to get rhythmical/percussive effects. I use anticipation at the start of a number of choruses (e.g. at the start of the first solo chorus), and the reason is I'm trying to build up some tension. And last: What have inspired my lines of though when composing this song isJimmy Smith's 'Back at the Chicken Shack' (1960) left hand.Jimmy McGriff's 'All about my girl' (1962) keyboard 'thumps' and anticipation.Lou Donaldson's 'Dapper Dan' (1968) rhythm.----------The organ is a Clavia Nord C1 - a Hammond B-3 clonewheel organ.----------Nord C1 Registrations and Settings:Upper 88 8000 000. No Chorus. Perc On, Soft, Fast, Third.Lower 88 8000 000. No Chorus.Bass lower man. 80.Leslie simulator Slow position.Equalizer not used.Overdrive not used.Reverb Hall, Soft, close to 50%.Tonewheel mode Vintage 2 (high level of tonewheel crosstalk and cable leakage artefacts). The sound is recorded line out from the organ. No additional external effects, external amplifiers or speakers are used.----------To be sure to watch this video with higher resolution and better sound, please, add &fmt=18 to the URL, or use this URL:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKBextkwY2w&fmt=18----------

Dec 5, 2008 - the only thing is that you would have to learn to play bass line with your legs and it would be perfect

Dec 5, 2008 - Thanks yogi!I think the Nord C1 is doing as fine as the real deal when it comes to the sounds and keyboard feeling, but I'm thinking of maybe getting a tube preamp (after the line out) to get tube distortion. Or getting a tube Leslie, or a tube keyboard amp.If I invest in a Hammond, it would for sure be a B-3 or a C-3 model!Keep swinging,Rounder

Dec 5, 2008 - Hi yogiThe Nord C1 has input for a bass pedal board, and it would of course be great to have, and also a big challenge learning to use it.Jimmy Smith often used the pedal board for quick "thumps" and did the actual walking with his left hand. For ballads and slow numbers though he did walk the bass with his left foot.Check out Barbara Dennerlein here at YouTube. She has the best bass pedal work, in my opinion.Keep swinging,Rounder

Dec 5, 2008 - Hey, what's up with the guy "wishing you get a real Hammond". The C1 is great, a real instrument in its own right.I love my C1 as much as my Hammond (sometimes more).Nice playing Rounder.

Dec 5, 2008 - Thanks OrganusMaximus!Well, the Hammond e.g. B-3/C-3/A-100 is an electro-magnetic electro-mechanical oil-smelling, 'woodcrafted', prohibititively heavy and amazing over-engineering wonder! It would be great having one.Congrats to you for being the happy owner of the best of both worlds! You can smell the oil and see the mechanics but still carry the sound under you arm! :-)Keep swinging,Rounder
