Kevin looked up at Joe, then at Nick, who had his hand to his forehead. Then he sighed. "Hi Joe," I said unsure of what to do. "Come on, let's go sit down," Nick said, leading me to the front pew where the three other boys sat. Nick was sure to sit between me and Joe. "That's not fair. You can't make the playing field uneven," Joe whispered to Nick, so i didn't hear any of it."First of all, since when are there any rules? Second of all, you weren't the one looking out for her and taking care of her when she nearly had a breakdown on the way over here." "What?" "See, maybe you don't know as much as you think you do." "You know what..." Joe started, but then the music began. "This isn't...""yeah, yeah, yeah, this isn't over. I know." "Boys," Denise mouthed, shaking her head at them. She smiled when she saw me and gave me a little wave. I smiled and waved back. Then i couldn't stop smiling. I felt for the first time in a long time that i was wanted. "So it just totally fell apart?" Nick asked. We were sitting on the floor in their living room one afternoon. Almost every day, after school or rehearsal if i had it, i went over to the Jonas house. I'd felt bad when i had started having dinner there every night, but it was so much nicer than dinner at my house that i just kept doing it. Now, it was almost expected that i was gonna eat there. At first i told my dad that i was working on projects, at late rehearsals, training for soccer (which i hadn't played since i was 12, but he didn't know that), or something. But then he just stopped asking, and i guess expected me to be out late. Usually I wouldn't come home till after he had passed out, so i actually saw very little of him. Nick and I had gone to the store for his mom to get some milk and stuff, and we had also grabbed a box of Sweettarts. I didn't like the purple and green ones so we had poured the box out on one of my notebooks so i could pick out the ones i wanted. He was lying on his stomach, and i sat against the couch with a notebook and a textbook open in my lap. I was supposed to be doing homework, but instead we had ended up talking about disasters during performances. "Well, not entirely," I said. "The headboard just fell off. But the best part was that it fell off at the exact second that the thunder track went off." I put my books down and lay on my stomach, facing him. He laughed. "Well, if it's gotta fall, that's the best time to do it, i guess." Denise stuck her head in from the kitchen where she was making dinner. "This doesn't sound like homework's getting done." I laughed a little. "It's getting there, I promise. I don't have that much tonight." "Sure you don't," she said skeptically. I laughed again. "No really, i just have some math and some English. Would I lie to you, Denise?" "I guess not. Nicholas, are you eating that candy?""Yeah, just a little bit though." "Okay, don't eat too much and check your blood sugar when you're done." "Mom!" Nick snapped, but it was already said, and Denise was already gone anyway. "What?" I asked surprised. "Okay, you caught me. I'm amazed we've made it this long, what with you eating here all the time and everything. I have diabetes. I wanted to tell you, but i don't really tell anyone. I don't want people to treat me like I'm sick you know?" I sat up, looking away. "Please don't be mad," he begged. "I'm not. It's just, i know exactly what you mean. I haven't been completely truthful with you either." ------------------------What has Jordan been hiding from Nick???? I know it's pretty obvious, but i can guarantee you with 99.99999999% confidence that none of you know exactly, and i guess you'll have to read to find out why i'm so sure. Sorry it's not a better cliff, and that this chapter (both parts) has been kinda boring. Some more interesting stuff is gonna start happening VERY soon, like prob next chapter or the one after. I just had a lot of set up to do. Oh and a note about the songs, i prob should have done them in the other order, but the first song was Nick's P.O.V. and this one's Jordan's, if that wasn't obvious. Anyway, i'll prob post tomorrow cause it's the last day of summer and i'll just be sitting around feeling sorry for myself and pretending i did all my summer reading, so i'll have time.
