Nov 22, 2008 - To all of you who think Katy Perry "is a bad singer," have you ever listened to the actual single? Her voice is amazing, Katy has an incredibly strong voice. Her voice doesn't sound too good here, but don't write her off because of one live performance. One reason why she might sound off is because of the audio. Do you notice how her voice seems to be very heavy in the mix? The recording on this video isn't very good to be begin with. Video quality is great compared to the other videos, though.

Nov 22, 2008 - I think most of us are well aware that there are plenty of studio tricks used in modern music. It is pretty clear to me that Katy has a strong voice on record. FYOI, she can sing in a "contralto vocal range" (between a "tenor and mezzo-soprano.") That is why those deep notes Katy sings on 'I Kissed A Girl' sound sooo good. Studio tricks alone will not carry a song. You still need a talented singer. About her looks.. Yes, that's true, but she also has a great personality.

They put them in a controled setting in a room where the acoustics are perfect and have them sing it until it sounds good. They don't do anything to the voice itself. Saying anything else just makes you come acrossed as very gullible. That you believe that they can just make up audio. Duh.

Nov 22, 2008 - Actually, they can do a lot of optimization in the studio - and the voice itself cannot really be changed, but it can definitely be fine-tuned with things like autotune.That's not too say she can't sing - no music label in the world would sign somebody with a crap voice. There has to be something there that can be worked with. Also you need to take into account that "pop" or anything that requires fast vocals with little breathing time is very difficult to sing, this doesn't show the talent.

She's outside, so even if she sings bitch instead of chick...yes, they can censor it by bleeping it on tv, but they can't censor it live outside. In NYC I believe there are public profanity ordinances which she could be fined for.
