I regret that co-star Karen Valentine did not play the sheriff in this scene! In the Western comedy "Hot Lead and Cold Feet," Don Knotts plays a sheriff opposite villain Jack Elam who find their repeated dueling attempts foiled. In this case, that foil comes due to street quicksand the recent heavy rain storms induced. Notice the warning lanterns and wooden pole barricades surrounding the pit!
