Dec 2, 2008 - The movie actually came out a year before the arcade game did. Even so, they were actually based on a Science Fiction short story called "The Racer," which I've yet to read, sadly.

Dec 2, 2008 - Ok, the original has less explosions and cool mtv-like cuts, and is terribly CHEESY, but if you like that kind of movie it tops the "remake" by far. The Deathrace is not in a prison but through all the USA, and it's not about "who survives", but "who kills the most pedestrians" - see a hospital where they put out old people on the street for the race, fans throwing themselves in front of the cars of their hero drivers and Stallone doing a wheelie in some poor schmuck's crotch. :)
