I am a Conservative Republican who believes that our country is headed in the wrong direction. We have lost the foundation that our framing fathers, including James Madison, laid for this greatest nation on earth. Liberalism has placed our country in jeopardy of having no moral conscious and becoming a welfare state that discourages self-provision, self-sustenance, and self-sufficiency. Therefore, those of us who do not want to see our country become another Rome must fight for what we believe in.LIMITED GOVERNMENTWe do not need a government that runs our lives. Government is to empower its citizens to achieve the American dream. A government that intrudes into the lives of its people is a socialist state that disempowers the populace. Therefore, we need a government that gives people a hand-up and not hand-outs.PERSONAL RESPONSIBLITYEvery citizen is assured the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is the last clause "pursuit of happiness" that sums up the individual's responsbility to take ownership of his/her future. When people achieve goals they feel good about themselves and are inspired to accomplish more. Therefore, the American Dream is about the fulfillment of an individual's pursuit of happiness.FREE MARKETSEcomomics 101 is the law of supply and demand. When government regulates businesses it stimies the markets and generates lower profits, unemployment, and lack of competition. Government should certainly protect citizens from scrupulous business practices and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. However, regulation is not how unethical and criminal business practices are resolved, but by strict enforcement of the law when these practices are discovered. Therefore, government should allow the markets to determine the prices of goods and services, and severely punish businesses that abuse the good will and trust of the American people. LOWER TAXESWhen taxes are raised people have less money so they spend less, companies have less money so they raise prices, freeze hiring, and reduce charitable givings. Therefore, taxes should be a low flat rate for all citizens regardless of income level because the rich should not be penalized for success and the poor should have the priviledge of contributing to the functioning of government.TRADITIONAL FAMILY VALUESThe traditional family is the bedrock of any nation. It is the family unit that brings stability and community to the cities and provinces across this country. Therefore, marriage should be defined as the union between a man and woman, and not be afforded to same sex couples. Abortion should be outlawed because it is synonymous with murder: it is a civil rights issue because the child's rights are denied when its right to live is taken away.EDUCATIONSchool vouchers, school accountability, and a national curriculum.PUBLIC SPEAKERMr. Hayes would be elated to speak to your group about the issues.
